Our journey alongside H²rObotics continues! As the young innovators progressed into 2025, their mission to compete in the MATE ROV Competition remained strong—but the latest months have brought both bold achievements and brave new decisions.
If you haven’t yet, start the journey from the beginning:
👉 Part 1 – The vision begins (2024)
👉 Part 2 – Team expansion and technical milestones (2025)
March: a fresh start with new faces
The start of the year brought transitions. As some members stepped away due to academic commitments, the team welcomed a wave of new energy:
-
Paula Lambert joined as social media manager
-
Zixaun Yau came onboard as builder
-
Felix Stammer stepped in as 3D designer
-
Jana Mutschler took over finance and PR
Despite changes, H²Robotics powered forward. They successfully:
-
Completed the design of their robotic arm and float
-
Built a Lego-based prototype of the robotic arm—which functioned beautifully!
-
Installed and programmed the motors for the ROV
The team also began searching for new sponsors and re-establishing internal collaboration with the fresh lineup.
April: testing the waters (literally)
With momentum building, April saw a major milestone: the first underwater test of the ROV. This test highlighted vulnerabilities in waterproofing—a vital discovery that helps shape improvements going forward.
Other wins included:
-
Completion of 3D-printed parts for the robotic arm
-
Purchase of measurement gear for the sensor float, which collects temperature and pressure data
-
Start of float system programming
These successes were bolstered by enthusiastic support from new sponsors, who played a direct role in making these advances possible.
A brave shift in strategy
However, not all challenges are technical. Due to the scarcity of critical components in Namibia and long shipping lead times from Europe and the US, the team faced an impossible timeline.
After thoughtful reflection, H²rObotics made the difficult but wise decision to step back from this year’s competition, choosing instead to:
-
Use the time to finish the ROV and float without rushing
-
Strengthen internal systems by appointing a central team leader to improve communication and task coordination
-
Order components well in advance for 2026, ensuring readiness for future requirements.
What comes next
The choice to delay participation isn’t a step back—it’s a strategic leap forward. With more time, better planning, and focused team development, H²Robotics is laying the foundation for a stronger comeback next season.
EcoRobotics is proud to support this evolving journey. Through resilience, teamwork, and relentless learning, H²Robotics continues to inspire a new wave of STEM-driven youth leadership in Namibia.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of this exciting adventure.
