Fistball may not be the first sport that comes to mind, but for the SFC 3 team, it’s a passion that proves age is just a number. Competing in Namibia’s B-League, where they finished 5th overall among seven teams, this group of "old crocks" (with most players over 40) showcases determination, teamwork, and a love for the game. EcoRobotics is proud to sponsor this incredible team, supporting their journey and commitment to the sport.
For the uninitiated, fistball is a dynamic sport similar to volleyball but played on a larger field (20m x 25m per side) with five players per team. The heavier, larger ball can bounce once before each touch, adding a unique twist to the game. The action is fast-paced, with teams battling it out across two to five sets or timed halves. With roles like defenders, a setter, and attackers, every player has a critical role—and there’s no rotation, so every moment counts!
Globally, fistball thrives in countries like Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with Namibia currently ranked 10th in the world. Closer to home, the SFC 3 team proves that experience and passion go hand-in-hand, bringing energy and skill to every match in the B-League.
Adding to the excitement, six talented youth players from SFC will represent Namibia at the U18 Fistball World Cup in Chile in October of 2024. This next generation of players is poised to carry Namibia’s legacy forward on the global stage, inspiring pride and anticipation for the future of fistball in the country.
EcoRobotics is honoured to support SFC 3, contributing to their success and fostering a community that values teamwork, resilience, and the joy of sport at any age. Whether you’re an experienced player or just learning about the sport, their journey is a reminder of the power of community and passion in competition.
